Satterberg Foundation awards Community Partnership Grant to Arizona Grantmakers Forum

Arizona Grantmakers Forum announced last month that itis the recipient of a three-year, $1 million Community Partnership Grant from AGF member the Satterberg Foundation. This is the largest grant AGF has ever received, and it will invest the funds in alignment with the foundation’s mission to promote a just society and sustainable environment.

The community partnership also strengthens AGF’s capacity to deliver on two of its strategic goals: evaluate, enhance and communicate the value it offers to attract and retain members and expand its ability to influence key issues affecting Arizona. Specifically, AGF will invest the funds in three initiatives:

Launch a funder collaborative to support enduring nonprofit collaborations. In coordination with The Lodestar Foundation, the collaborative will establish a multi-year pooled fund for members to support and strengthen long-term nonprofit collaborations ranging from alliances and permanent joint projects to shared administrative functions, and in some cases, mergers and acquisitions.

Create the Arizona Social Equity Collaborative Fund to support organizations that are advancing racial, socioeconomic justice and equity in Arizona. Through this first-in-Arizona collaborative, AGF will engage and compensate local community organizations for their time and expertise in educating our members about critical issues affecting disenfranchised Arizonans, including the root causes of poverty and inequality and how to invest in social change.

Build AGF’s capacity to serve as a powerful voice for philanthropy. AGF will invest in four critical areas to pursue its mission focused on member empowerment and transformational leadership: racial equity and social justice training for the AGF board and membership, branding/marketing, technology and research. Members will gain higher-quality and relevant educational programming, advocacy support, philanthropy-related data and analysis and a modernized AGF website with easier access to members-only content.

About the Satterberg Foundation
The Satterberg Foundation is a family foundation based in Seattle and grants to communities throughout Washington and California. With a mission to promote a just society and a sustainable environment and a commitment to equitable, trust-based philanthropy, the Satterberg Foundation envisions a world in balance with vibrant communities in which all people enjoy the opportunity to grow and thrive.

AGF is deeply grateful to the Satterberg Foundation board and staff and is proud to have the opportunity to help connect them to the local philanthropic network and the Arizona community.

The community partnership with the Satterberg Foundation signifies a transformative time for AGF. It is one of many milestones that has marked its journey from a small group of foundation CEOs back in 1986 to a growing statewide network of more than 300 philanthropy professionals from 71 grantmaking entities. Now is an exhilarating time to be a member of AGF, the statewide network that connects, educates and advocates for Arizona philanthropy.

AGF will share updates and opportunities to get involved as these initiatives take shape. If you have any questions or ideas in the meantime, please feel free to contact President and CEO Laurie Liles at
